Church Building Construction Project
Dear Friends of Christian Haitian Ministries:
Thank you for standing alongside us in the battle to reach Haiti for Christ! God has shown unmistakable signs that He’s the One leading this endeavour and making things happen. We are honored just to be the tools that He is using!
As you might know, for the past six years GOHaiti has carried out an evangelization program called Hiking for Jesus throughout the mountains of Haiti. Through healthcare and straightforward sharing of the Gospel, we have been able to touch many lives physically and spiritually.
This past year, a team from Connecticut came again, this time with the ambitious goal of planting a Church – if we could win at least 12 souls. Well! The Holy Spirit showed up, and though the trip was challenging (we couldn’t even reach the top of the mountain) God brought in more than 150 souls! Immediately we knew a Church was born; from now on we couldn’t visit only once a year. We have spiritual babies to raise!
When we sent this good news out to missionary friends, we immediately received $5000 to start a new shelter/Church building, thanks to Our Savior’s Way Church of Virginia (http://www.oswlc.org). We set ourselves to the task of purchasing all the necessary materials, and then the cumbersome work of carrying these heavy loads uphill (during the rainy season)!
Finally we began construction on a 30x60’ building, excitedly taking photos and videos to share with our supporters. However, after these shots were viewed by some professional carpenters, we were warned not to continue until we received expert help (Sigh). But they’re right, of course: Haiti is known for hurricanes, earthquakes, mudslides and other natural disasters. We must ensure this Church is on a solid foundation, physically as well as spiritually.
We apologize the pictures included here are imperfect, but still, they’ll give you an idea of what we’re dealing with.
Do any of you know a missionary-carpenter? We don’t have a lot of funds, but we’re now in a race with the next rainy season, to erect at least the basic four walls, even if it’s not fancy or even completely finished.
As soon as possible we want this infant congregation to have a place to meet regularly, hear the word of God, learn scripture and grow in their relationship with our loving Saviour, Jesus. The good news is, we’ve already identified some potential leaders among them whom we will mentor to continue the work in the near future.
Meanwhile, with other leaders at GO-Haiti, we are training a Team to build the Real Church; motivated workers who can not only hike steep paths, but also teach basics of scripture, servanthood, leadership and active evangelism.
Accomplishing this goal will take about six months, so we’re trusting the Holy Spirit will watch over these new believers, raising them to be a shelter and a lighthouse for our mountain friends.
Please pray for this congregation, for the Team and for us … daily! And humbly, could we ask you also to consider how you could be a blessing to this growing spark of Light?
Remember our Motto: If I can go, I will go; I can’t go, I will send; but I refuse simply to sit and watch.
Thank you, and God Bless you.
