Urgent Financial Need
Dear Friends and Faithful Supporters of the Orphanage:
I've just come back from the Orphanage and ~ praise God ~ the wall is getting built, the Church is growing, and the kids are all enrolled in classes and doing great! Our count is now thirty-three, and even though the demand to admit more, desperate children is incessant and increasing, I'm actually writing today about another situation that has suddenly come up:
Over the last few years we've had the luxury of using some land rent-free to grow our sweet potatoes, corn, and Moringa trees. It sits immediately outside our front gate and has been used ~ with great success ~ to teach the children to cultivate their own source of vegetables and protein.
We are very grateful for the kindhearted generosity of the dear gentleman who owns this field. It has always been his intent to give us ample prior-notice if ever he needed to use the land again himself.
We're saddened to report that he died unexpectedly a couple weeks ago, which is quite a blow to us. Moreover, his children need to liquidate the property, quickly, and since it's approximately one acre, the market rate for it here would be $62,5000.
The heirs are kind enough to offer it to us at a discounted rate of $50,000 -- but they need the money in a week!
The Moringa trees are just becoming commercially profitable this season; they and the other plants have been our only source of greens and proteins for a while now.
The children have worked long and hard in this adjacent field - planting, weeding and watering while enduring humidity, mosquitoes and sun. They are justifiably proud of the results of their efforts and I know it would break their hearts to look out and see the trees torn down and the rows smoothed over.
But $50,000 is far too much, and one week is far too short for GoH Haiti to be able to raise funds in time ... in the natural. That is why we are issuing a Prayer Alert, asking one and all to lift up this petition before the Lord:
That we receive generous donations from gracious brethren, or ...at least a loan (which could be repaid with the proceeds of the harvest), or ...that another purchase it but allow us to continue working it for little or no rent, or ... any other miraculous way God would help us Save Our Garden.
We also ask that you prayerfully consider how you might help, perhaps by sharing this appeal, by researching creative financing, by contacting others through crowd-sourcing (FaithLauncher.com), by having our cause receive the holiday donations of an organization you know ... or especially by pouring your heart out in prayer for our little ones, to Save Our Garden.
Thank you for taking the time to read this urgent plea, and may God bless us all as we go forward.
In Jesus Christ our Lord,
Dr. Franco Jean-Louis, MD
